LJ Links - Do Not Want & Failboat

Do I Even Need to Say it?

Please don't link my journal anywhere

Thanks!

Even Teddy, (or a reasonable facsimile thereof) does not like this new feature:

Thought for the day:

If LJ spent half as much time thinking about their customers as they do about Frank the Goat -

they probably could avoid a whole lot trips on the Failboat.

Where did you get the picture 'Failboat'? What is the story behind it, do you know? It's absolutely fascinating!!!

Your fics & comments are safe with me, my friend!!!

I'm sending this to a few people I follow. I will never cross post anything, I don't want internet me and real me to meet, it would upset a lot of people and I would probably loose my job (Narrow minded Roman Catholic boss and collegues, they got someone on a disciplinary for mentioning the Jack/John kiss in series 2)Maybe if we all post anonymously so we can't link cos it doesn't know who we are!!

Same here. It isn't like there weren't already ways to link ALLOWED material to these places! ^O9____9O^

[identity profile] aviv-b.livejournal.com 2010-09-02 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I googled FAILBOAT and looked at Images. There are lots of good ones out there. I think its just two images photoshopped together.

Given my work place, I'd probably get a promotion! Actually a selected group of co-workers know about my journal, I just don't want some comment taken out of context by some wanker on Facebook or Twit- I've already had a really bad experience with that on LJ and that was bad enough.

I appreciate your support!

You got it! Why on earth would they let comments that are left on locked entries be linked? I rarely have locked entries but really, I don't really want people discussing my stuff on Facebook or Twitter. I don't have any accounts set up on either one and I'd rather not be on there by proxy.

and folks want to know why I don't use my 'real' name and have identifying info on my journal. Uh...its called privacy.

You can eliminate the option. Go to Journal Style, then go to Customize your theme, then go to Custom CSS. Paste the following into the spreadsheet and save. It will eliminate the little ticky boxes, and what can't be seen can't be clicked. This should stop comments from being crossposted, so you just have to be careful not to click on crossposting when you make entries.

And how annoying is it that we have to do this?

Thank you, I will give that a try over the weekend. I'm too tired now to try anything that might aggravate me.

You're welcome. It was actually exceedingly easy to do.

Am I paranoid, or does it seem strange that business people from a country not exactly known for freedom of expression are buying up all these companies?

And even if I am paranoid, am I necessarily wrong?

Try our five year plan ... of DOOM.

1) Maybe they and China are launching a new Cold War - now with Capitalism!

2) No.

I agree this new enhancement belongs on the Failboat..

I love your kitty pic

For real?! (Where do you live?)

[identity profile] rose-cat.livejournal.com 2010-09-03 08:05 am (UTC)(link)
Does that actually prevent others from crossposting your comments, though?

[identity profile] rose-cat.livejournal.com 2010-09-03 08:07 am (UTC)(link)
In order to spread the love, Facebook users who do NOT have LiveJournal accounts can now log in, comment, view friends, and join communities using a Facebook log-in/ID and password (much like OpenID). To log into LiveJournal using your Facebook account, click on the Facebook button located in the log-in area of the LiveJournal header (as shown in the image on the right). Facebook users can quickly upgrade to a full account in Account Settings.

Why isn't anyone talking about this? (I don't think it's love they're spreading.)

[identity profile] aviv-b.livejournal.com 2010-09-03 01:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think it does, it just doesn't make it happen with the click of a button.

[identity profile] aviv-b.livejournal.com 2010-09-03 01:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Really, what were they thinking? Picture - I stole it off the Interwebs - kitty does have a passing resemblance to Teddy Boo.

So now facebook folks will be able to comment even if your journal is set to LJ users only?

[identity profile] hanag.livejournal.com 2010-09-03 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I live in England.

They stiched her up because the comment was made on the shop floor and could be "offensive" her comment was along the lines of "wel that puts a whole new meaning on the phrase I don't know whether to kiis him or kil him."

Luckily the area manager got it removed when we kicked up an almighty stink about it.

It should stop those who are commenting on your LJ from cross-posting as they comment. Which should, theoretically, prevent cross-posting of your entry at all. Now what happens on LJ's that don't have this fix in place, I don't know.

[identity profile] aviv-b.livejournal.com 2010-09-04 12:40 pm (UTC)(link)
YOu're right - that was easy. Frankly there's nothing much personal on my journal, but I worry for people who have revealed stuff they would rather their grandmother on Facebook not know about or their employer for that matter.

Or someone indicates that they are crossposting to communities that would identify someone's sexual orientation or preferences or religious or political beliefs. Or even better - communities that are for people with substance abuse or psychiatric issues because employers don't ever fire folks for stuff like that.

[personal profile] chryssalys 2010-09-05 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly. Most of the people I know are well aware of the fact that I write slash fic - doesn't mean I want my niece and nephews finding it. Most of the people I know are aware of my sexual orientation - but not all of my clients are.

Regardless, cross-posting without permission is flat out rude, and for LJ to set it up so that we can't easily opt out of it is really a failure on their part.

Glad it was easy for you.
