Ianto's Journey, Epilogue - Eternity ( STORY NOW COMPLETE)

IANTO'S JOURNEY, PART VI- RESOLUTION
TITLE:
  Epilogue - Eternity
AUTHOR: Aviv_b
RATING: - G/PG
CHARACTERS: Gwen, Jack, OCs
DISCLAIMER:  Not mine; Aunty B's and RTD's
WORDS: 1930
SUMMARY:   Eternity is what you make of it.

Title is from:  Immortality - a fate worse than death.  Edgar A. Shoaff

THIS STORY IS NOW COMPLETE:
A complete chapter list for Ianto's Journey can be found here at the main page of my journal:
http://aviv-b.livejournal.com/
All chapters are linked.

A/N - I hope you've had as much enjoyment reading this story as I've had writing it. Its almost exactly one year since I started writing this fic. The first chapter was posted August 1st of 2009. I had never written any fiction before I got involved in this fandom and had only written a couple of crack/humor stories before I started this piece. I had the outline of the story mapped out and thought it would be 15 - 20 chapters. But once I started it took on a life of its own. Stories about this Torchwood universe demanded to be told. Characters had adventures they didn't want me to leave out. So I did my best to comply with their wishes. I hope I succeeded.

I will  be posting the main timeline for this story on my LJ. I will also have a link from my main page. I will not be posting it to other comms. because it contains (as River would say) "Spoilers" and I don't want it obvious to new readers.

Several of you have requested a PDF version of this story. I am in the process of putting one together - I'll post it in the usual places once its finished. It may be a while before this is ready because I'm taking a short break to finish up my last vacation's pictures before I go away on another adventure in early August.

But don't despair. I'll then be moving directly on to Schmoop Bingo. All stories will be Torchwood and some will be from this verse. Look for the IJ_verse tag for stories that fit into this universe.

Thank you all again for reading and commenting. It really means a lot to know that you have invested the time and energy to read this story from beginning to end.

Ok - its your last chance to comment - don't be shy!
____

January 2077

Gwen sighed as she closed her diary. It was just her now. She didn’t have much longer to live. Nothing was seriously wrong but at almost ninety-six years old she had a clear sense of her mortality. She wasn’t complaining, mind you. She had lived almost a whole century and been privileged to see ‘when it all changed.’ But she was tired now and more than ready to have a long rest.

After Ianto’s death, Jack hadn’t stayed around long. They buried Ianto in London, next to Aaron with the other Hamilton’s. She hadn’t been to this cemetery since Aaron’s funeral right after the Invasion. Stephen was buried there as well, and not too far away, Jonathan and Kelly were also interred. She, Andy, Mickey and Martha were the only ones of their generation left to attend.

Jack gave a beautiful eulogy for Ianto, and David, Mica, and Rose said a few words as well. Ricky and Bronwen were there as well, and it was comforting to see Rose and Bronwen comparing notes on their pregnancies and their choices for names. Rose’s baby was due just after the start of the new year and Bronwen was due in March. Two little boys, one named for Owen and Jack and the other for Ianto, the three men she loved the most after her husband.

Jack told her then that once he had settled up Ianto’s estate and sold the house, he was leaving Earth. He wouldn’t tell her where in space or time he was going, but promised her that he would visit Earth periodically. They had agreed not to meet again for fear of crossing timelines or for Jack inadvertently dropping a ‘spoiler.’

Gwen didn’t really think he would come back to Earth but she was wrong. Once a year, every year since Jack had left a yellow rose was left at the house she lived in with Ricky and Bronwen. The first one in Cardiff took her totally by surprise. Bronwen found it by the front door wrapped in paper with her name on it.

“Mum,” Bronwen called to Gwen. “You’ve got a secret admirer.”

Gwen stared at the rose wondering who it was from when it hit her. Jack, it had to be from Jack. “It’s from Captain Jack.” Bronwen looked at her like she was crazy.

“No really, look at the date, its’ August 19th, Ianto’s birthday. He said he would visit…I bet there’s a rose on Ianto’s grave today. Bronwen thought Gwen was getting a little ditsy in her old age, but by the afternoon her curiosity got the better of her. She called Ricky and told her what Gwen had said. Ricky emailed Mickey and told him what Bronwen had related.

Mickey also thought Gwen was daft, but eventually he headed out to the cemetery to see for himself. Only Gwen wasn’t surprised when he called and reported that there was a red rose on Ianto’s headstone. And when he ran into the caretaker, he found out that a man in a 1940’s British military coat was seen by the grave early that morning.

“Yeah, the cemetery wasn’t even open, and there he was, just standin’ there. I was going to confront him, but I saw he had the rose and was crying. So I reckoned he was heartbroken and just left him alone.”

Fifteen years had passed since then and a yellow rose still appeared at her door every August 19th.

When Mickey had retired from Torchwood One in 2065, Ricky had taken over his position. He, Bronwen, Owen Jack and Gwen had all moved to London.  And like clockwork the rose appeared at their new home right on schedule. Gwen and Bronwen got into the habit of going to the cemetery on that day, taking little OJ (as he was called) with them until he was old enough to go to school. The red rose was always there to greet them. They would put the yellow rose on Aaron’s grave in remembrance.

Now OJ was now almost fifteen. While he was a bright child, he was quite rebellious and quite trying for his older parents. Gwen seemed to be the only person who could get him to clean his room, or take out the garbage or show up for meals.

“You know, your Gran’s getting quite old,” she told him after one row between him and Ricky, “so could you just show to Sunday dinner without a big fuss.”

“He’s always riding me, nothing I do is ever good enough,” OJ retorted.

“Yeah? Funny thing that. He used to say the same thing about his father. Let me tell you a story about the time…” Amazingly, OJ loved Gwen’s stories and always listened to them patiently asking questions to fill in the blanks. Gwen knew he’d turn out fine; he just had to grow up a bit. Not surprising for a child named after Owen Harper and Jack Harkness.

The rest of the Torchwood children had almost all grown up. Kory had been in college at the time her family had moved to London and had opted to stay in Cardiff and attended university there. Now she had just turned thirty-four and had a daughter of her own named Tonia (for Tosh) who was ten.

Rhys Jr. had just retired and his children were grown and had lives of their own. Rhys III was married and but he and his wife had no children as of yet.  And Bethan and Tegwan were thirty, still both single and still both raising hell in Cardiff.

Rose’s son Ianto was the polar opposite of OJ. Quiet and thoughtful like his namesake he already knew that he wanted to join Torchwood like his Uncle Ianto or maybe join the Royal Marines like his Uncle Aaron. He had never met either one of them but Rose told him stories of them, of Ianto at Canary Wharf and Torchwood Three, Ianto and Aaron at Torchwood One and finally of Ianto and Captain Jack back in Cardiff.

As Gwen closed her eyes, she felt fully contented. The Torchwood children would find there way into a new world with new challenges and they would be ready.

Gwen died peacefully in her sleep in October of 2077. She was buried back in Cardiff next to Rhys with her children, grandchildren and the rest of her Torchwood family to mourn her passing.

No one noticed a man in a dark greatcoat standing in the shadows watching the funeral. After everyone had left, he laid a last yellow rose on the freshly laid earth.

***

Jack’s life continued on through the ages until his demise, many hundreds of billions of years in the future.

2100 *     -Mars is successfully colonized.

- A red rose still appears on Ianto’s grave every year.

2106 - In June the caretaker at the cemetery in London notices a tall man dressed in a red buccaneer jacket and high leather boots lay something on top of the Hamilton-Jones headstone. As walks over to speak to the man, he disappears into thin air. Upon inspection, he finds what looks like a small piece of coal. Begin superstitious he doesn’t remove it. There’s a small scrap of paper underneath crammed with writing. He can make out most of it. “…tried to come…but…… detained…by Master. Diam….anniv…ry….will….remember…”

2156  - Earth Central declares bankruptcy and the Earth Alliance of Corporations takes control of the planet. Earth's colonization of the galaxy continues. Many of the Torchwood descendants leave Earth. These descendants agree to give the middle name “Torchwood” to all of their generations to come.

- Red roses continue to appear each year on Ianto’s grave.

2850   - Earth’s environment is destroyed by solar flares. The remainder of the Torchwood descendants leave Earth. They too have adopted the tradition of Torchwood naming.

- Red plants that don’t require oxygen are still left on Ianto’s grave.

4206  -The Earth’s environment is gradually restored. Colonists from around the galaxies return to Earth. A few Torchwood descendants are among them.

- These descendants have heard the myth of Ianto and the Red Rose. They find what they believe to be the grave of Ianto Jones among others, in an overgrown field. The writing on the stones has long worn away. They visit the field on what they believe to be August 19th and find a wilting red plant at the grave. Right grave, slightly wrong calculation of the date. They also find a pile of 22 small uncut Arcadian Diamonds.

4900   - Human’s re-pollute the planet leading to a second global warming. Winter ceases to exist on most of the planet. Many of Earth’s inhabitants once again leave and spread out across many solar systems.

- A few of the Harper descendants end up on the Boeshane Peninsula. Over
the next millennium some of their descendants’ names are gradually transformed to Harperness (adopting the Boeshane convention of adding ‘ness’ to a last name to signify ‘descendants of’) and finally to Harkness.

200,000

- Earth is covered with megacities, with a population of 96 billion. It is the centre of the galactic domain of the Fourth Great and Bountiful Human Empire that stretches across a million planets and species.

- One small section of land remains undeveloped. An impenetrable force field surrounds a field within New London. No one remembers what was there, but speculation is that it is protected by some powerful aliens from the future.

- No one notices a red rose being left at a particular site within the protected area each year and a black shiny stone left at the same location every hundred years on the 6th year of the new century.

5,000,000,023

- The Earth supports no life of any kind.

- A Sister of Plenitude (also known as a Cat Person) travels from New New New York on New New New Earth to Earth to lay a new new new rose at pre-determined location coordinates. She has no idea the meaning of this act, but does it as part of her nurses training under Novice Hame at the New New New York hospital.

- She lays the rose on a pile of shiny stones.

5,000,000,053

-The Doctor travels to New, New New York to save the inhabitants of the city and say goodbye to an old friend.

-Novice Hame travels to Earth to lay a last rose at the coordinates specified by the Face of Boe. The planet is biologically dead and sustains no life. She finds a group of 35 stones at the precise coordinates in an overgrown field. She leaves the rose on top of the stones.

As the Face of Boe closes his eyes for the last time, he is surprised to see a bright light and a crowd of people standing within it. Confused, he hesitates. Who are they? Where is he?

As he gets nearer he is shocked to see people and aliens with familiar faces stepping forward. It’s all his friends and lovers starting from the most recent and working backwards. They race by him and disappear in a flash.

And then he sees beyond…“It can’t be…but that looks like…” And it is. It’s Tosh and Owen and Gwen and Rhys, and Martha and Tom and Mickey and Andy…he’s realizes he has a body again and he’s running, actually running and there’s a final group that steps out from the light.

It’s John Hart, Alonso, Aaron and Ianto, and as he nears them he reaches out for them and trips. Everything goes dark. He feels utterly at peace. Jack’s journey is over.

 THE END

Thank you. Happy tears are good.

Beautiful ending.
I just started reading this recently, and loved it.
Well Done.

*sniffles*

I've thoroughly enjoyed this fic, and the ending suits it well. Can't really find more words just now, but then, this fic has often had that effect on me.

Thanks so much for all your comments. I can't believe I've been writing this for a year.

*considers what to do with suddenly free time*
This was a brilliant story. I loved the way Ianto stayed confident and happy despite everything that happened to him.
The timeline was great, the Harper's eventually becoming Jack's family, or at least honouring Jack's memory.
So, yeah, I'm not very good at this commenting thing. But this story was one of my favourites, simply because it had everything I liked.
Well worth de-lurking for.

[identity profile] aviv-b.livejournal.com 2010-07-22 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you so much for delurking! Here's a <<>> for you. I look at my stats and I see literally hundreds of people reading, but only my lovely group of regulars commenting week after week. So its nice to know that other readers are enjoying it as well.

Free time - hmm, I'll finish editing my last set of trip pictures, check out my gear for the upcoming rafting trip, clean my house (hahahaha), return phone calls from people who called months ago, lay on the couch and read a book, maybe I'll even go for a bike ride, pick up the guitar which has been almost untouched the last year....oh I can think of lots of things to do. oh yeah, and watch my Netflix movie in less than three months.

Such a delightful story. It's been quite a journey, and you should be very proud of it.

I'm crying my eyes out right now, but I'm sure you knew your ending would do that to everyone.

- A few of the Harper descendants end up on the Boeshane Peninsula. Over

This did make me laugh though. Thank you so much for this journey.

[identity profile] aviv-b.livejournal.com 2010-07-22 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
No don't cry. Its a happy ending...sort of.

Yes Jack is Owen's descendant. I just couldn't resist.

Thanks so much for reading. I did enjoy writing it, but I think I'll be sticking to shorter stories in the future. I'm so behind on everything else in my life, its kind of embarassing.

[identity profile] jedishadowolf.livejournal.com 2010-07-22 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
*applauds* Jack's timeline really was the perfect ending. To get to see things through Gwen's eyes at the end of her life and the beginning of the legend of the rose, all the way up to the Face of Boe's passing was just wonderful. I'm sure you'll hear this a ton more, but the fact that Jack is Owen's descendant makes me giggle and it's so very appropriate. :) Thank you for writing this & sharing it with us all.

[identity profile] aviv-b.livejournal.com 2010-07-22 01:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Like in canon, Gwen is the last one standing (with the exception of Jack). And for all the Janto folks who so patiently read the Aaron chapters (and grew to love him for the most part) I felt they deserved a reward - and the Legend of the Rose and the everlasting love that Jack has for Ianto is about the best payoff imaginable.

Giggles - Yeah, I couldn't resist that little connection between Owen and Jack.

Thank you for this master work, I've been following it for as long as it started (I think!) and it's been a rollercoaster of a ride. Thank you for the hard work you've put into it, and the enjoyment it's given.

And thank you for being my loyal reader all the way through. I have to ask - what did you make of the last paragraph of the Epilogue. I purposely threw in an amibguity there, and I'm surprised no one has commented on it.

I started this journey from day one

[identity profile] starshine24mc.livejournal.com 2010-07-22 09:53 am (UTC)(link)
and it went places I never expected, or expected to like (I often live in terror of 'descendent' fics, where families turn my fandoms into some kind of weird North vs South thing *LOL), and you put it together brilliantly, making me as interested in the new characters as I was in my beloved known characters. You created a unique universe that you should be very proud of, and if I told you I just got a little dust in my eye there at the end, well, I'd be a liar *L*

Thanks for a job well done and I look forward to reading more from you!
Cheers!

Thank you sooo much! another reader from the beginning and new commenter - so{{{ hugs}}} to you!

I have the same problems with children (especially mpreg) fics, so I used them mainly to show the passage of time and future generations.

And I always wanted Jack to be decended from one of the team but I couldn't decide between Gwen and Owen for the longest time (not Ianto cause that would be too much like some weird intergalactic incest).

[identity profile] iolo1234.livejournal.com 2010-07-22 10:19 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks for this wonderful story which I started reading chapter by chapter on fanfiction and teaspoon and then I discovered livejournal and read about 30 chapters in one go. It has been amazing to follow the journey until the end. You should be very proud to have created such a wonderful story.
And yes I have tears in my eyes!

[identity profile] aviv-b.livejournal.com 2010-07-22 01:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm glad you caught up. its going to take at least another month to get the whole thing up on the other two sites.

I do have a question for you. Did you ever look at the graphics included with the fic when you were reading over on FF/Teaspoon? If so, did you find they made the story more enjoyable, less enjoyable or are you neutral on the topic?

The reason I ask is I am going to be making a pdf of the story and I'm wondering if I should make one with graphics and one without or only do a graphic version, or only do a non-graphic version. A couple of folks have said that they'd prefer no graphics as it makes for easier reading on a kindle and the like.

I usually find fics having more than 10 or so chapters a bit tedious, and often struggle to stay on top of the thread of the discussion. But this fic has been well worth it - I thoroughly enjoyed what you did with the characters and I'm always impressed by writers who can create believable and likable non canon characters that actually fit into the narrative. Thanks for a great fic and a fully satisfactory ending. :-)

[identity profile] aviv-b.livejournal.com 2010-07-22 01:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh thanks so much. Yeah, sometimes OC characters get annoying I'm glad to hear that mine weren't.

For the record, Aaron was not my Mary Sue or my stand in. He actually is based on two of my male friens (one straight, one gay) who never feel like they are good looking enough, or smart enough, or successful enough to attract someone wonderful. So here's to ordinary people who get to be extraordinary when it really counts!

I loved the story but I'm not sure about when the Face actually and truly dies in your story. Is it on New New New York as shown on Who? It seems to read that way though the formatting could alter it I suppose. See, I've never bought the Jack = Face of Boe scenario, or at least that The Face truly dies and stays dead on New New New York. We keep being told that Rose used the power of the vortex to make him immortal, a "fixed point" in the universe and that the Doctor and Tardis are strongly affected by that, to the point that they flee from him. If Jack = Face of Boe and the Face truly dies there, then Rose did not make him immortal, he is not a "fixed point", and there is no reason to run from him. If Jack = Face of Boe, is a "fixed point" and immortal, then he would have again returned probably with his whole body regenerated.
I think Jack was just messing with the Doctor with the Face of Boe comment. He was a Time Agent, he would know about the Face, and wanted to wind him up.
Still love the story though, and will be looking forward to the PDF.

[identity profile] aviv-b.livejournal.com 2010-07-22 03:51 pm (UTC)(link)
You raise a good point. I'm assuming that Jack is the Face of Boe and he does die in that episode. And there is a problem with that isn't there? Because its not at the end of eternity. The earth burns to a crisp when the sun becomes a red dwarf around 7.9 billion years AD(in Who verse). So maybe the darkness he sees means he isn't done yet. Maybe his soul goes into some kind of stasis or limbo or purgatory in time and space until the universe ends.

Thanks for reading - I missed your comments those last few chapters!

You got it. In Dr. Who Canon, mankind ruins the Earth not once, but twice! I've seen every episode of Dr. Who ever made, but I have to admit that the details of the timeline is not every something I worried about. But thank goodness for the Interwebs - found a complete Who timeline and was able to fold the Jack/Face of Boe into it.

I honestly thought I didn't have a single tear left in my body, after yesterday, but I'll be damned if a vast torrent didn't pour out at the last four words -- "Jack's journey is over".

I feel so much joy for Jack that he can finally find peace, but a touch of sorrow as well, that it took so very, very long for him to find Ianto again.

Question, you wrote "...John Hart, Alonso, Aaron and Ianto..." -- does this mean that he will never be with Ianto, that Ianto is with Aaron? That is just too, too cruel to make Jack wait billions of years only to come home and find what he loves the most in the Universe and the Heavens is untouchable. That is so unthinkably callous and merciless it just doesn't seem possible. Please tell me I'm mis-reading the intent? Please???

Finally, I don't normally save many fics, but this one touched a special place in my heart and took up refuge. So, when your PDF is ready, may I please save it?

Thank you so much, and have a fantastic vacation!! Where are you going & for how long do you get to enjoy yourself???

[identity profile] aviv-b.livejournal.com 2010-07-22 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Well the end is a little ambiguous - frankly I was waiting for the yelling to begin. Because unlike Ianto, everything goes dark for Jack. So...if we assume that Ianto went to some kind of after existence (heaven or not) where did Jack go? Same place, different place, no place?

And all of Jack's lovers and friends from billions of year rushing by - was that his life passing before his eyes or the afterworld.

And if they are all together, I think the five men are having orgies...wait that would be six because Geoffrey would be there as well. Just think of the story possibilities there!

Confused yet? Me too. I just don't know about heaven as a physical destination or as a place where the 'soul' resides or whatever. So the interpretation of Ianto's and Jack's endings are left to the individual.

Thanks for the compliment and being such a loyal reader! I will be writing schmoop bingo stories when I come back from vacation and at least some will fit into this story.

Don't have anything big planned - this story literally took over my life for almost a year - so for now I'm going to stick with some fairly short stuff.

I may even try a few Dr. Who stories with the new Doc.

Thank you for reading - I hadn't seen you comment for a while so I didn't know if you had dropped out

Are you making an epub of the story? Sure I'd like one!

Just wanted to say, just discovered these communities on LJ like a week ago. Hell, just discovered TorchWood like a month ago. (Totally addicted and in love with all of it.)

Found your story on Monday. Don't have internet at home so stayed after work for 2 hours Monday and Tuesday just to read everything, the whole story.

It's truly amazing! Made me laugh, cry etc.

Thank you so much! I feel very honored that you stayed at WORK to read my story. If I may, one of my favorite newer writer is Lawford. Check her out - she writes some great Jack/Ianto and Ianto/John fics. And most of her stories are a lot shorter (in the 10-15 chapter range mostly).

Thank You for your marvelous story. I'm sorry for not commenting before but like many of your other fans I'm a bit of a "lurker".

I just wanted you to know how much I've enjoyed your work and I look forward to your next offerings(once you've had a rest).

Lurking is good! But I'm glad you unmasked yourself to say hello. Its nice to put an face icon with a reader. Thanks again, I'm glad you enjoyed the story (other stories are listed on the first page of my journal).

I really love the twist of Jack being a descendant of Owen's. Also the Spielberg style tying up all the bits. Really very moving and epic.

[identity profile] aviv-b.livejournal.com 2010-07-23 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you. I couldn't resist adding that one twist at the end. And yeah, I hate loose ends.
Now its on to vacation and then Schmoop Bingo.

What a wonderful tale, should be sub-titled "Aviv_b's Journey".

Now a question as to why Jack's seeing people stopped at Ianto? Wouldn't it go further to earlier friends, lovers and family?

And the line at the where "Everything goes dark" In my mind just begged for Jack to wake up, walk into the bathroom as Ianto was stepping out of the shower and say "I just had the strangest dream" ala the TV show Dallas. I am so showing my age by knowing that, lol.

Again, thank you for a wonderful tale and will read it again when the PDF is posted. Hugs

Very ambiguous ending, no? Is Jack's life passing before his eyes? Is he really dead? Its not the end of time after all - but without a physical body does he just float around as a spirit? Or stay in some type of purgatory? Or is in heaven? Does he glimpse heaven but can't get in (but John Hart did!)?

So its up to you to write the ending. I could see it like the last sceen of the Wizard of Oz - Jack wakes up from a nap...'hey I had the strangest dream'...and you were in it (pointing to Owen) and you (pointing to Gwen), and you...who the hell are you? (He says pointing to Aaron).
Ianto says..."Don't worry he's the plumber come to unplug the toilets - we'll just retcon him when he's done."

Did you read this whole thing in one go? You deserve a medal! And I'm so glad you enjoyed. It would be terrible if you stayed up half the night, finished it and then thought, 'well that was a waste of time.'

BTW - I'm writing some schmoop bingo stories and one is in this 'verse.'

So I just found this fic this morning through the Children of Time Awards, and I just finished reading it. It is now almost 2AM and you made me cry with the last few chapters. Seriously, tears running down my face. All I can say is WOW. This was fantastic, and you totally deserved the win. I will definitely be reading the companion pieces soon, but at the moment I'm feeling rather emotionally drained, so not right now.

I really loved the relationship that you created between Ianto and Aaron. The way you constructed it made it plausible, and I just liked Aaron as a character. I had to go back to the children of time listing to see if it was listed as J/I there, because I felt myself getting really invested in the I/A storyline and wasn't sure how that was going to be resolved into J/I. Aaron's death was really, really sad, but at the same time it worked for the story, so I suppose I can't be too put out.

I'm rambling on, now, but my real point is that this is a fantastic story (of quite epic proportion), so thank you for sharing it with all of us random people on the internet.

Joslin :)

PS- Also, just a bit of a pet peeve, I totally don't expect you to go back and change any of this, because it's really a small thing, but I did notice that you used the word discretely whenever you meant discreetly. (Discretely=separately, discreetly=circumspectly)

[identity profile] aviv-b.livejournal.com 2010-10-20 01:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you so much! No crying at 2 AM, you'll have puffy eyes tomorrow. I wanted everyone to like Aaron he was the supportive man Ianto needed at that stage in life. And Jack needed to grow up as well. But I always meant to have them get back together at the end without making Aaron a bad person in any way.

A couple of the schmoop bingos are the from the IJ universe - Who Let the Dogs Out and 5 Love Letters Never Sent... A few more could fit into the IJ timeline but Ianto has no lasting disabilities - Crybabies, Go Cubs Go and Hart & Soul.

Pet Peeve - thank you for pointing that out - seriously, I've made a note for myself as once I finish bingo I'm going to give the whole things a final read before I make a PDF of the story.
