Re the social worker - I experienced a similar situaton at a hospital. Prior to eye muscle surgery I had some to have some tests done to measure all sorts of things in the eye. So the brilliant tech takes my glasses away and then asks me to read a wall chart. Uh, I'm legally blind without my glasses. She did not think my response of "What wall chart" was funny. Neither did I. I couldn't find the chart let alone read anything on it.
