Is there anything better than Torchwood Holiday Crackfic? The correct answer is 'no.' It makes the pain of visiting with disagreeable relatives vanish, removes migraines you get from the colors on the hidious sweater Aunt Philipina bought you (three sizes too big of course), as well as helping you recover from all the over indulgences of the season.

So when you are sitting around wondering how you managed to consume so much dinner/sweets/liquid libations at one time, treat yourself to some no calorie, always refreshing, really silly, Holiday Crackfic.

Even if some of the stories are old, new comments are always nice.

Summary: When Santa needs help, Torchwood is ready. Sort of.  Christmas Crackfic. Work-safe graphics.

A/N: This is a very silly story, with even sillier art work (term used a bit loosely). I'm sure its been done before, but I didn't check because then I wouldn't have wanted to write it.

And since it's the first night of Chanukah (Hannukah if you prefer the Hallmark version), here's a link to a story I wrote a couple of years ago. 8 short chapters so you can spend all of Chanukah with team Torchwood.  How Torchwood Saved Chanukah: http://aviv-b.livejournal.com/17398.html

Much love and best wishes for a wonderful holiday season and a happy and healthy 2012

Ida and Teddy got a lovely Scratch & Climb toy from their Aunty D just before Christmas. With being sick over Christmas weekend and really busy between Christmas and New Years, I finally got time to assemble it today for them.

A good time was had by all. (As always, click the picture to bigify).

Thank you and head bumps to our Aunty D!

Family Medical Stuff - The Good! (Or in the immortal words of the Doctor - Everyone lives!)
First things first:  My sister-in-law and my father both had cancer scares over the last few weeks. The good news, my SIL does not have cancer. She had some major surgery and has some serious medical issues that still need to be addressed but the news is much better than first thought.

My Dad's PET scan was completely negative. It does not appear that the tumor on his pancreas has spread in any way. And that tumor is shrinking with chemo. We still don't know what the spots on his lung are (from his recent X-ray) but he will be having a bronchoscopy in week or so, and if that's not definitive, then a needle biopsy. So not out of the woods, but again, much better than expected.

So really, I got Everything I wanted for Christmas.....with just a little exception.

One Sick Meowmy - The Bad
The long weekend started out with such great promise. I had Friday off and got all my normal weekend chores out of the way. Saturday went to see "The King's Speech" and had dinner with friends. I highly recommend the movie - everyone in it is fantastic.

Then I went home just in time to watch the exciting Doctor. Who Christmas Special and...got spectacularly sick. Sick like you wouldn't believe. Sick, like I couldn't watch the show. I did catch the first 20 minutes or so but after that - let's just say I was otherwise occupied.

So I've spent the last 24 hours either in bed, laying on the couch, sleeping and feeling miserable. I was able to take care of the cats, and did get on the Internet for a bit this morning, but almost all other plans went out the window. Did manage to finish my read through of Ianto's Journey and its all formatted for PDF- and once i get back to work I'll have the software to make a PDF. I'll let you know when its ready and where its posted.

The Furry
The kitties have been soo good. All I've been able to do is feed them and clean their box a couple of times. No energy for playing catch or feather chase or any of the other games they like. And I haven't had the energy to put together the Climb and Scratch Toy (two activities they certainly excel at) that Santy Claws left earlier this weekl.

They've snuggled and cuddled and head bumped and purred and napped and given kitty kissies and lickies to me the whole time. No whining, no fighting.....are these my cats?  They've been sooo good.

Yeah its late, and I'm up (having slept about 18 out of the last 24 hours) and I'm still tired. So going back to bed - hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas.

Dear Santa...

Dear Santa,

This year I've been busy!

Last Saturday I gave [livejournal.com profile] thebuttonontop a life-saving blood transfusion (50 points). In September I bought porn for [livejournal.com profile] blackbird_song (-10 points). In April I helped [livejournal.com profile] rootesie see the light (8 points). Last Wednesday I broke [livejournal.com profile] missthingsplace's X-Box (-12 points). Last Tuesday I punched [livejournal.com profile] iamshadow in the arm (-10 points).

Overall, I've been nice (26 points). For Christmas I deserve a wedgie!

Sincerely,
aviv_b

First Things First:  Life is, well, interesting. My mom's doing a lot better, but now we're having cancer scares with my dad and sister-in-law. Oy! Dad's is much more worrying, but we won't know anything until some more tests are run. Let's just say that 2010 has not been the greatest year health-wise for my family.

I've been having some minor eye problems and have had to restrict my time on the computer a bit. So no writing on-line the last couple of weeks (hence no new Chanukah story this year). I guess an average of 15 hours a day on the computer is not so good for one's vision. Who would have thunk. Apparently electronic devices cause you to blink less - and with all the sinus/allergy medicine I have to take take my eyes get very dry anyway. I ended up with mild corneal cracks (yikes!) which lead to a sudden and rather dramatic loss of vision. The good news is that some steroidal eye drops have helped, the bad news is that this is likely to be an ongoing issue. The worst part - this means no Kindle or iphone in my future.

I have some ideas for some Christmas stories starring our favorite TW pet - I'm hoping I can start something next week. The working titles are Myfanwy's 1st Christmas, Myfanwy's 2nd Christmas, Myfanwy's....well you get the idea.

My annual holiday party is this Saturday. Just finished placing my Peapod order (yeah, online groceries), and I have pretty much everything else I need. House still needs to be cleaned.  Oh joy!

All my Chanukah and Christmas cards are mailed, I have one small kid's gift to buy and all out of town gifts will be mailed by Friday. All other gifts are wrapped and ready to go. Mostly stuff for my co-workers and some special children in my life.

I found the cutest books for kids this year (I am the official book lady).  And after I bought the books, I noticed there seemed to be an overall theme.  See if you can guess:

For the little girly pre-reader, we have:
No, that is not me on the cover.

For the little girl just reader, we have:
No, that's not Ida on the cover, but I think she'd be a very good doctor.

And for the big girl (7) reader we have:

Yes, that cat has an uncanny resemblance to Teddy (behavior-wise anyway).

Finally, for the really big girl, with the bad eyes (yes, that's me) we have:
No, that's not me either, though I wouldn't mind...

Anyway, my eyes are tired, so I'm getting off the computer before I get myself into trouble. Nighty-nite!

This is rant. A heartfelt, head-spinning rant. I've just received my third "Holiday Gift Meme" in as many days and I DO NOT WANT!

I normally avoid stores from Thanksgiving through the end of the year. Not only do I hate crowds, but the whole gimme grab leaves me saddened and exhausted. If I told you I didn't exchange gifts with friends, I'd be lying. But more and more, I've been moving toward gifts to charities, personal assistance to others in lieu of material gifts.

And while I don't begrudge any else's buying of gifts, its the not so subtle asking that seems to becoming a bit more ballsy the last few years.

My least favorite version of this phenomenon is the LJ/Facebook/Blog Christmas exchange list/Holiday gift meme.

The 'if you just happen to have a deluxe full feature camera, or an iPad, or gee, maybe a cashmere coat that you weren't planning on doing anything with - maybe you could send it my way?'

For the record - if I have something I don't need, I give it to charity. Coat I'm not wearing goes to charity. Sweater that doesn't fit - ditto. Blu ray player - how many people have spare blu ray players sitting around their house? And if you do, I'll bet a nursing home or children's hospital would be thrilled to have it.

Don't you feel any embarrassment at your obviously grubby begging meme, in many cases asking virtual strangers to give you stuff? Not food or clothes or shelter, but luxuries that no one has to have?

This isn't anything like a person trying to raise money to pay medical bills or offset funeral expenses or help with college tuition when their scholarship discontinued or vet bills for a sick pet.

This is asking your on-line pals to be Santa. You want something for free...use freecycle. But honestly, I don't want to be accosted with lists for wonderful sparkly items you'd like to have cause, well, because dammit everyone else has one.

In a year when the stated US unemployment rate is 10%, but the real unemployment rate is closer to 20%, people are losing jobs and homes faster than the blink of an eye, maybe, just maybe, this is the year where you say..."I  have all that I need, I have more than I need. I am not so self-involved that I think my need for an iphone deserves more attention than someone who doesn't have a winter coat."

And please don't tell me how filled with the Christmas spirit you are, or how Jewish you feel (whatever the hell that means) and then put up a list of what you want as gifts. Because really, who are you kidding?

Now in the interest of full disclosure, if anyone has the following hanging around in exra supply, please feel free to forward them to my attention. I'll make sure those who have real needs get these:
  • Affordable health care for everyone
  • A government that works for the people not the big corporations
  • Food for everyone, so that no one goes to bed hungry
  • Ending discrimination against others because of their race, or religion, or country of origin, or sexual orientation, or gender or disability, or political beliefs or personal private behavior.
  • A decent job with decent pay and benefits for anyone who is willing to work.
That's my small list for the holidays. Funny thing, it hasn't needed changes for many, many years. And I suspect it won't be changing this year either.

So bah humbug to the gift list memes.

I wonder how long it will take to get the first 'you're a stinkin' socialist' comment.
