I stumbled across thiis quite by accident:

POLL: More Than 70% Of Iraq And Afghanistan Veterans Comfortable Serving Alongside Openly Gay Troops
It seems like our troops are a lot smarter than our Congress. 70%! And of those surveyed 40+% identify themselves as Republicans.
How will the right wing tap dance their way around this one? Claim that the soldiers aren't REAL soldiers? Or that the identified Republicans aren't REAL Republicans? Or perhaps they'll go with the ever popular assertion that the soldiers have been 'converted' or 'brainwashed' into accepting the 'homosexual agenda' (whatever the hell that is).
Ok, Congress if the troops don't care about their fellow soldiers' sexual orientation, what reason will you now come up with to refuse to repeal DADT?

Date: 2010-03-17 02:24 pm (UTC)On a related topic, I was thinking about your piece on Tolerance vs Acceptance. And it really struck a chord for me.
There's an organization in the US - The Southern Poverty Law Center that takes on these groups through legal means. The also have an educational program that is used in classrooms called Teaching TOLERANCE (emphasis is mine). If you have a moment, take a look at their program. Do you think they should consider a name change (e.g. Teaching Acceptance)? Because as you pointed out, there is a difference.
