LJ is being a rat-faced bastard.  I'm going to try to put this under a cut - but if this doesn't work - don't go any further.......

TW wraps up this week. Please, can we just kill off Jack and go home now?

Earlier here we had a litle contest to name the Alien that was revealed in Episode 9. So many entries - I had trouble deciding.

After much contemplation, and a large quantity of distilled spirits, I present you with the winning entry. It captures the essence of the alien , it uses the official Ianto naming convention without resorting to using words that are considered by some to be vulgar or misognynist.
The Winner Is:

  carniverous cleftffor

A lovely v-gift will be making its way to her shortly. Congratulations to loofly and everyone who submitted entries.

A while back I had a little contest at this journal to name the best Miracle Day trope. I had so many great entries that I just couldn't decide which was the best. (Ok, the truth was I got busy and totally forgot about it).  http://aviv-b.livejournal.com/112639.html

But now, as brilliant as these all were - the award goes to RTD for his reveal of the Miracle Day Monster:

A friend mentioned to me that there appears to be a cut bit from the UK version of episode 6. I haven't watched but here's her observation:

If you're watching and enjoying MD, this is not meant to say you shouldn't. Or you're a bad person if you do. Or anything else except what it says.

Ok - I've been skimming MD downloads because the premise of the show isn't of interest to me. And the little that I've watched is too slow paced and drawn out to keep my attention. If you're watching it and enjoying it that's great. To each their own.

But from the little I've watched and the plot recaps there doesn't appear to be much original story telling.
I've always wondered where Rusty gets his ideas from, but I think I finally figured it out: Tropes Are Us.

In my quick survey of MD - I was able to identify several right off:

We have the ever so popular Death Takes a Holiday:
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DeathTakesAHoliday  Often used in sci fi, its been done to death and better by sci fi writers and one hour TV shows. You do not need ten episodes to tell a zombie story.

Of course we also have Rusty's favorites Small Girl, Big Gun, combined with Action Mom. I couldn't find a trope for the "I'm Welsh" moment (awesome foreigner?), but maybe you can.

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ActionMom

And let's not forget episode 4 and the His Name Is trope when the baddie is killed just before he can reveal who is behind the plot.

I spotted several more - but why should I have all the fun. What's your favorite MD trope? I'll be awarding a super sekrit prize for the best one. The judging will be based solely on which one makes me laugh the most. Look at it this way, at least I'm not making you strut around in a bathing suit and high heels and calling it a scholarship contest. One trope per post please, multiple posts welcome.
